Wiman wins in professional debut

** UPDATE ** Wiman won his second start as well in an 11-4 win over Kalamazoo; in his second start he allowed five hits over five innings, allowed three runs, walked one and struck out five. So far, he's 2-0 in 10.0 innings pitched with a 2.70 ERA and 12 strikeouts. Jameson Maj also dropped his ERA by nearly half in his last two relief outings by pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. So far, Maj, the former Major League Baseball draft pick (St. Louis) has thrown 4.2 innings, struck out four and carries an ERA of 5.79.

Former ACU pitcher Chris Wiman won his professional debut in the Frontier League pitching five scorless innings and helping the Southern Illinois Miners to a 5-4 win over Traverse City Tuesday.

Wiman allowed only two hits, walked just one and struck out seven in his first start since 2008 when he wore the purple and white. He, along with former ACU pitcher Jameson Maj, signed with the Southern Illinois in April as a part of the independent Frontier League. The league consists of 12 teams from the midwest including teams based out of Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky.

Wiman finished in the top 10 on ACU's career list for wins, strikeouts and saves. Maj has appeared in two games so far in relief. Through Tuesday, the Miners are 2-2.
