Your ACU Wildcats are now No. 2 in this week's D2Football.com Top 25 poll after last Thursday's 19-14 victory over then-No. 2 Northwest Missouri State. Northwest drops to No. 7. Grand Valley State, which Saturday handed West Texas A&M just its fourth regular season loss since Don Carthel became head coach in 2005, remains No. 1. (Two of those other three, by the way, have been to ACU. I'm just sayin'.) Grand Valley, meanwhile, has won 43 straight regular season games, which seems really selfish.
Defending 2008 Division II National Champion Minnesota-Duluth is at No. 3 after a 56-0 victory over Concordia University, St. Paul - a small Christian school with a comma in its name which sounds like a bunch of nice people who deserved better. Even the mascot looks less menacing than simply hearty or perhaps even avuncular.
Displaced from No. 4 to the outskirts of the top 10 is Delta State, which fell to ACU's Lone Star Conference South Division rival Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday, 28-17. The Javs move up in the poll from 24th to 11th. QB Billy Garza threw for better than 300 yards and rushed for 50+ more. ACU gets Kingsville at home this year in the penultimate game on the regular season schedule.
